Text follows in Swedish:

PRESSMEDDELANDE - 22 JUNI 2023

The company of Stylos Design and their product Vevios had the honor of becoming winners of “Power of Innovation” prize from region South in 2023!

In June 22 at Almi in Malmö, Vevios was awarded at “Power of Innovation” in 2023 - Region South. Vevios won SEK 50,000. Vevios, is an innovative safety alarm that provides both communication and freedom everywhere. A mobile safety alarm that works as a simple device, a portable mobile phone bracelet.

The reasoning of the jury: "A company that invents a solution to a major social problem and their product will make the industry even more cost-effective. They will create a safer everyday life and take a big social responsibility with their patented technology. The product has great potential and appeals to a broad market."

How did you come up with the idea? - "Hanne Pålsson is the founder, industrial designer and product developer of Vevios safety alarm. Vevios was a master’s degree thesis at Lund University in 2015 in her studies in industrial design when she graduated from the Ingvar Kamprad Design Center (IKDC). The reason for her design focus was her own professional experience in elderly care during her studies. This made her realize many health care products for the elderly and the chronically ill were inadequate. The safety alarm, which is of huge important for all vulnerable groups who live alone, caught her attention The alarm needed to be improved in terms of communication, ergonomics and design in order to give the user freedom, security and to encourage use. Here where the dream of Vevios began to take shape and the development of the first Vevios prototypes. In the spring of 2017, she was selected to participate in the accelerator “Fast Track” a program at the business incubator “Minc” in Malmö and here is where the company Stylos Design AB was founded. Her work has become a full-time job, with a lot of positive attention from future users, the media and also other technical employees.”

What does the profit mean to you at Vevios? - "The biggest driving force for me as an entrepreneur is to be able to meet the needs of the elderly, chronically ill and other vulnerable groups in society (witnesses, women) - to feel SAFE. The amazingly positive response I keep getting for the safety alarm Vevios, both from users, alarm centers, municipalities or from private individuals via email gives me energy all the time. As a female entrepreneur, working with product development both has its ups and downs but the positive confirmation from people that are looking for an improved safety alarm like Vevios makes my not want to give up. Having been given the opportunity to win the “Power of Innovation” 2023 has given us the extra drive needed for entrepreneurs to succeed” - Hanne Pålsson, founder and CEO, Vevios.

Stylos Design raises capital!

As of this day, Stylos Design AB the company behind Vevios the future mobile safety alarm, announces the capital raising of 410 000 €. Among the investors are Almi Invest and Anders Florén, CEO of YABS.

"We are very happy for the trust of our investors, to be able to continue our journey of developing a mobile safety alarm. The alarm is a lifeline in an emergency and enables the elderly to stay longer in their own home, today's stationary safety alarms have shortcomings in terms of communication, ergonomics, and design which is solved by Vevios. The technology is based on the latest in mobile communication, and the user-friendly panic grip (patent) encourages use. Vevios gives the users a safer and freer everyday life," says Peter Emilson, CEO at Stylos Design.

"After seeing my father and additionally now my mother, forced to wear 1900s technology around their necks to call for help, it feels natural for me to step up and support Stylos Design and their launch of Vevios. The company's commitment to persistently help the elderly appeals to me and I am positively looking forward to being part of this journey”. says Anders Florén , one of the new investors.

Next up is Vevios final prototype quantitative tests together with users & homecare personnel at a nursing home in Skåne, in cooperation with the alarm company Viser. Further on the goal is to initiate sales via distributors, starting in Sweden in 2023, thus entering the Nordics in 2025 and later the rest of the EU.

This is a great opportunity, after the slow year of 2020 with the Covid-19 pandemic decelerating our product development as well as everyone else in the start-up and entrepreneurial world. This pandemic has also prevented us from meeting and talking to the vulnerable target group that we are aiming to help. Therefore, for us, there have been some postponements over the past year, but also proved that the need to be able to live a strong solitary and active life. Good contact, if necessary, to healthcare and support, despite illness or age should not be an issue in 2021. We are therefore coming back stronger and with a greater awareness even in society at large that a safety device like Vevios is a necessity.

We have continued the development with Vevios and the final prototype, which we intend to test and evaluate with our co-working partners, an established alarm company in southern Sweden, during the spring.

Vevios: What Does Freedom Mean to You?

What does freedom mean to you? It’s easy to take for granted and the definition of freedom will depend on who you ask. There’s freedom of movement, freedom of thought and freedom of speech - and they’re all important for a functioning society. As a person you are free to express what you are thinking and feeling. You are free to take a walk down the street or in the forest. You are free to go to the store or spend time with your loved ones. It’s fair to say that we would all agree that anything different would be dysfunctional, and perhaps even inhumane. The problem is that this freedom that we all expect and take for granted, is not always available or viable for the elderly.

In the past few months your freedom has probably been restricted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. And while nobody likes having their freedoms temporarily restricted, and being forced to change our routines, we understand that it is necessary in order to stop the spread and to save lives. Right now, we cannot freely go outside, enjoy our freedom and meet people without sacrificing our sense of security - but what would it be like if your life was always like that?

Perhaps due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are all getting a taste of the restriction of freedom that many elderly people feel. A lot of elderly and chronically ill people remain confined to their homes due to outdated safety alarm technology. They might still have the physical ability and the mental will to do all the simple things you and I take for granted - like going to the store, seeing their friends or taking a walk, but are unable to do so without sacrificing their sense of security.

We here at Vevios have always found it unacceptable that the elderly and chronically ill are forced to choose between their safety and their freedom this way. That is why we created the Vevios safety alarm which utilizes the latest developments in eSim technology and cutting-edge telecommunications to deliver a modern safety alarm. Vevios is limitless in reach and communication ability which means that no matter where the user is, they can always feel secure and free.

Vevios: A Note In the Times of COVID-19

From its inception, Vevios has aimed to do one thing: create a safer and freer life for society’s most vulnerable people - especially the elderly.

Times like these are undeniably strange. It is not often that something happens in the world that affects everyone on this tangible level. COVID-19 is global phenomenon that does not take who you are into consideration. Even if you are young and healthy your routines and your life has had to change: you might be working from home, you might have had to limit your social contact, you might be wearing a protective face mask for the first time in your life. In this way, it affects us all. Still, it needs to be acknowledged that some people, especially the elderly or the immunocompromised, are in a position to suffer more from this pandemic than others.

One thing that is very clear in the many discussions about how a pandemic like this one should be handled is that we are all in this together, and we have to work together to solve it. We have to take precautions and make sacrifices that, if not for ourselves, then for the safety and health of others. We, as a global society, have to take stock of what is truly important. And if you are staying home and thus participating in social distancing, working from home and taking the necessary sanitary precautions then you are helping - maybe more than any of us will ever understand.

Our small company has, just like everyone else, been greatly affected by the COVID-19 epidemic. Not only as a business, but also as individuals within the company. Still, we are seeing more clearly now than ever how important elderly care is, not only in Sweden but worldwide, and we are more dedicated than ever in our mission to help alleviate the work they are doing with our modern, cutting-edge technology. Vevios safety alarm will save time and resources for the hardworking medical and elderly care personell by eliminating time consuming and costly false alarms. Vevios safety alarm will also create a safer and more communicative day to day for elderly users, and take today’s safety alarms to a modern standard.

Finally, Vevios would like to deeply thank all the nurses and elderly care workers out there who are looking after our most society’s most vulnerable. We cannot thank you enough and we hope that after this is all over, that everyone sees how vital you truly are.

Vevios: Never Stop Playing

What do you think will happen when you grow old? Some of us look forward to growing old, while others are more apprehensive. Many think that “I’ll finally have time to do all the things I don’t have time to do now” and “devoting more time to my interests, like being out in nature, spending time with my children and grandchildren or traveling”.
There are a lot of things to look forward to.

One problem with aging is that the body doesn’t always keep up with the mind. If an accident occurs, then worry and anxiousness that it will occur again might keep one from following ones dreams. This is an understandable worry, but we here at Vevios do not think that it should stop us from adventure in our golden years. It is, after all, like the author George Bernard Shaw once said: “We don’t stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing.”

Vevios can appease this worry, a reliable and limitless safety alarm that works everywhere. Wherever you may be, whether at home or out in the world, you can always feel completely safe. Vevios allows for a foundational sense of safety and alleviates worry, so that you can focus on staying active.

Vevios isn’t just a cutting-edge safety alarm, it’s better looking than ever before. Vevios bracelet can be customized upon the users request and personality.

Vevios isn’t just a cutting-edge safety alarm, it’s better looking than ever before. Vevios bracelet can be customized upon the users request and personality.

During spring the last and final sharp prototypes of Vevios will be tested and evaluated in collaboration with elder care and emergency services. The goal is to launch Vevios on the market later in 2020. We are very much looking forward to receiving feedback from users and having the opportunity to try out the very latest innovation in safety alarms and wearable technology.

Vevios: Optimism About an Older Future.

Around the world, a clear trend is emerging: we are getting older than previous generations. Our longevity varies from country and continent, but the pattern is the same almost everywhere. The World Health Organisation (WHO) states that from 2000 to 2016, the average lifespan globally increased with 5.5 years, and that this trend is only growing. This is a positive pattern and is a testament to the equally positive developments within medical technology and research, as well as favourable health trends. These favorable health trends not only exist on institutional levels, but individual ones as well.

Besides the fact that we are getting older, we also have a more positive disposition regarding our aging. An American study shows that one third of participants between the ages of 65 and 74 feel 10 to 20 years younger than they actually are. The study also shows that beyond this development, two thirds of participants over 65 years of age also feel that they have more time to devote to their hobbies and to travel.

All of this indicates that we are not only enjoying our “golden years”, but we also have a continuous interest in keeping ourselves physically and mentally active.

The question is how the rest of the world should handle this? Inadequate technological advances in product development for the elderly and the elder care industry has created a difficult situation for the growing demography of older people. An older person with the interest and will to keep active can find certain limitations in their physical abilities and subsequently feel restricted to their homes. This forces them to choose between their safety and their freedom. It is not acceptable that quality of life accrues so many limitations with age, especially when said limitation is due to a failure in observing and embracing the technological, digital solutions already available.

With Vevios we are seeing the reality of the situation and can offer a modern, digital solution that meets the demands and wants of the growing, aging demographic we have today. Vevios works like a cellphone that can be worn everywhere and is not dependent on a base or installation in the home. Vevios can guarantee the users safety without limiting their freedom or will to lead an active life.

Vevios: A Web of Safety

When we designed Vevios safety alarm we had one question in mind: how do we create a safer and freer existence for the elderly and chronically ill? The foundation of Vevios has always been developments within a field that hasn’t seen enough technological innovation. This will to develop has been based on personal experiences with elderly care, coupled with a glowing ambition to solve problems: especially problems that cause a lot of unnecessary and unacceptable suffering. After a lot of hard work this has resulted in a stylish and cutting-edge safety alarm that is easy to use and can be worn everywhere.

For us, the sense of security of the user has always been the highest priority. However, as we test the Vevios more and more and collocate the feedback from our prototype tests, we realize that Vevios offers much more than that. Not only does Vevios offer a sense of safety to our users, but also to our users’ loved ones: a web of safety with the user as its centre. It is not only important, after all, that the users’ themselves feel safe with their Vevios, but also that users loved ones can carry that sense of security with them, and the knowledge that help is on its way should an accident occur.

But it goes further than that. Vevios has a holistic approach when it comes to solving the many problems with today’s safety alarms. Vevios not only raises the sense of security of our users and their loved ones, but also alleviates the work of emergency services and elder care with our groundbreaking and encompassing technology. Our vision is to improve every rung on the ladder with the goal of giving the elderly and chronically ill the safe and free life they deserve.

Vevios is in perfect step with the times when it comes to this approach, as it’s noted more and more that elderly care is in dire need of technological innovation. Dagens Industri has in the last few weeks reported on how hundreds of millions of kronor is to be invested in the digitalization of elderly care, and Vevios is ready to meet the contemporary and future challenges this digitalization will entail. Dagens Industri also includes this topical quote from the head of elder care concerns at SKR:

“We see that the developments in the country are progressing a little too slowly from the challenge we are facing, with more elderly and fewer in working age that can perform the elderly care needed. Therefore we have together with the government reached the conclusion that social services need support in this” (our translation)

Vevios is right now preparing for further tests on users in February and March. These are the final tests with the sharp prototype before we launch on the market later this year. Vevios is ready to ensure the web of safety that elderly care needs.

Vevios: The Future Is Now

Vevios is getting closer to the market. After qualitative testing of the first Vevios prototypes during 2018, we have made progress and improvements based on the users’ feedback and technical developments. Therefore we have finally completed a version of Vevios that contains and offers what a safety alarm should, without compromising the users sense of security or freedom. Vevios solves the shortcomings present in today’s safety alarms, which is not just a matter of much needed development and innovation when it comes to design and function, but also the groundbreaking technological developments Vevios can offer.

Today’s divided safety alarm binds the user to their home, and does not consider the user’s mobility and their want to lead an active life while still feeling secure. This is due to the fact that today’s safety alarm is based on an aging system that requires communication between the safety alarm that is worn by the user and a stationary device installed in the home. This means, in practice, that the user does not have the ability to leave their home and still feel secure, should an accident occur. We do not find it acceptable to force society’s most exposed groups to choose between freedom and security in this way. We also do not find, based on personal and professional experience within elderly care, that it is acceptable to not hold aid products in higher regard than they previously have been and currently are. The developments in elderly care have not kept pace with technological progress in other areas. How would it have looked if the medicinal technology in hospitals had not been updated in 50 years? Would that have been acceptable?

We live in a time of constant technological progress. There are new generations of smartphones, computers and smart-TVs launched every month. We can store data in the cloud and have developed apps that can turn on and off lights in the home - from the office or vacation. We have programs that develop themselves through artificial intelligence. All these developments are positive but they are not always fundamental, especially when considering all the problems we also have that are not addressed with the same level of interest and ambition. We here at Vevios find that it’s important to make sure the foundation of the house is solid before we start polishing its windows. We have therefore developed a safety alarm that makes use of contemporary technological developments for the elderly and chronically ill: highly risk exposed demographics where Vevios can really make a big difference. Through these advancements, we can provide a contemporary product to an area that, for unfathomable reasons, has found itself in a technological shadow.

To guarantee this uncompromising freedom and security, Vevios is a all-in-one product that respects the users day-to-day life through a simple and stylish shape, with the color of the bracelet itself being customizable. Vevios sits comfortably and securely on the wrist and when activated, in the case of a fall or accident, the user can communicate with the receiver through Vevios built-in speaker and microphone. The user receives a clear and calming response in the form of lights and vibrations until help arrives. Since Vevios comes with a built-in eSim, no installation is required and GPS allows for positioning, which means that the user can not only securely communicate with emergency services or elder care: they also know exactly where the user is. On top of all this, Vevios also offers an industry leading two week battery life with normal use and the Vevios can be charged without having to remove it from the wrist.

Vevios is the future of safety alarms.

The Vevios prototypes will soon arrive!

May 23, 2018

A look back to when Vevios won the Region Skåne stipend for established designers in October of 2017. For us here at Vevios, design isn’t primarily focused on solving technical issues but rather about understanding and then solving problems that people face in their day-to-day lives. In the clip below Hanne explains more in depth why Vevios is needed today and its unique functions. Soon we will have finished prototypes for testing and evaluation. When this is done, Vevios will be available for everyone in need of a safe, stylish and secure safety alarm.

Do you or do you know someone who wants to help test Vevios? Then please send us an email at info@vevios.io and we’ll tell you more about how our testing is conducted and when they will occur. All opinions and reviews are important to Vevios as the future of safety alarms.

Vitalis, 2018

April 26, 2018

During the last two days we have been attending Vitalis, Northern Europe’s largest eHealth conference. Digitalization require large scale changes for the healthcare industry and new demands and needs are constantly being created - not to mention for the elderly, who is by the fastest growing age demographic in Sweden. The new demands and needs also mean new challenges and we are ready to meet them head-on. We are looking forward to a future where Vevios can offer modern and stylish safety alarms who, thanks to our mobile functions, will be without limitations.

We will continue working towards new prototypes of Vevios that will be tested in May! Keep an eye on our website and follow us on Facebook to see the latest of our developments.

Matchmaking, possibilities and the future

April 20, 2018

Yesterday we had the opportunity, as one of 10 startups, to pitch in front of 20 investors from all around Skåne. We are incredibly grateful for the widespread attention we are receiving and are equally as happy for the interest shown in us and our product.

There exists a lot of doubt today about the functions of safety alarms and it is often reported in media how vital alarms fail and help never reaches the person in need. Vevios is the only safety alarm on the market today that ensures that the call always transmits successfully, no matter where the user is located. Vevios guarantees that the functions a safety alarm should have also functions the way she should. Thanks to the cellular connection the call always reach the pre-selected numbers and GPS-positioning enables help to quickly arrive. During May the first functioning prototype will be tested on elderly participants and we are looking forward to the opportunities of providing a higher quality of life for our users.

Finally, a big thank you to Malmö Startups for putting together such a great event!

Vevios takes shape!

April 11, 2018

Vevios continues to evolve and a new prototype has been developed! Pictured below is the latest prototype that is ready to be tested on users in collaboration with three skånska municipalities this spring. In the images you can see the outer silicone bracelet and the inner unit for the technological components. The prototype is the first result in Vevios development and we are well on our way towards a final bracelet design. We are incredibly happy with the universally positive response we have received and continue working towards market launch in 2019. Keep checking out the website for updates on how the future of safety alarms is taking shape!
